Adoption Assistance

Are you in an unplanned pregnancy and looking for adoption assistance?  Do you have many unanswered questions regarding adoption or would you like to contact a woman who has placed a child for adoption? We are here to help. Hannah's House is a loving home for women considering adoption in Southern California. We also have listed below some important links and other information regarding adoption.  Should you be interested in speaking with someone at Hannah's House, please call us at 1-888-619-6628. We are here to help and answer any questions you may have.

Adoption is a deeply personal choice. Women who make this decision do so for the best interest of their child and some because they do not feel parenting is right at this time. Some women also say they feel the hand of God in the decision to place, as if it was part of God's plan for everyone involved. Whatever your decision may be, we are here to support and respect you in your choice.  If adoption is the right decision for you, we have found that the pieces will fall together and you will find not only the family that meets all your hopes, but also peace about your decision.  After you have made the decision to make an adoption plan, there are generally two major choices: finding the right family and the agency or legal practice you would like to work with.  Some women find a family via the internet (for example, on www.parentprofiles.com) or find an agency they like and work with the participating families within that network.  It is most important to remember that you are in control throughout this entire process; everyone else is there to support you and help you.  If at any point you don't feel like someone is not fully committed to you and your best interests, quickly move on. You'll find the right fit.

Beyond that, women find it helpful to speak with other birthmothers who have placed and what their experience has been.  Adoption has changed and more and more women are choosing a semi-open or open adoption.  Semi-open adoption generally means letters and pictures are exchanged between the birthmother and the adopting family.  An open adoption can include visits with the child and even mean that the birthmother is like an "aunt" figure in the child's life.  While "closed" adoptions appear to be less encouraged, many women also find this is the right decision for them and makes adoption easier.  It is a perfectly good option if that is the option that you think and feel is the right one for you. It does not mean you are any less loving- you have already proven to be a loving person by making the choice to give life and love through adoption.

What kind of resources are out there?  Hannah's House is one great resource for women making an adoption plan.  It allows women to get away from the pressures of family and friends and make an adoption plan in a loving and secure environment.  Women are simply free here to get the help and support they need. This includes a highly-esteemed psychologist who has tremendous experience working with women in unplanned pregnancies and specifically women who have chosen adoption.  Women also have educational and medical resources available them.  They come from across the country and from different walks of life to shared residential living.  Up to six women are at Hannah's House at a time.
