Adoption Option

For birthmothers who chose adoption, they did so...

*Because they're not ready for the responsibilities of parenting.
*Because they want to finish high school, college or graduate school.
*Because they wanted a married mother and father for their child.
*Because they want to be a good person and "do what's right."

Adoption in Two Steps:

Step 1. Educate Yourself

Adoption has changed and has empowered the birthmother in all aspects of the adoption process. She chooses the family, the agency or legal practice, the type of adoption and more. There are a tremendous amount of resources available to help women throughout the process. If you are in an unplanned pregnancy and thining about the adoption option, you will want to learn as much as you can.  We recommend speaking with women who have chosen to place a child or speaking with a trained and compassionate adoption counselor at an adoption agency.  Whatever you choose, it's critical to get started on your medical care and taking prenatal vitamins.

Step 2.  Make an Adoption Plan

Once you've decided that adoption is the right decision, its time to choose a legal practice or adoption agency to work with.  Some birthmothers will find parent profiles on the internet and simply choose to contact the lawyer or agency that couple is working with.  When they are deciding upon the right family, birthmothers may choose to meet with many prospective families if they wish. You may also choose to speak with the couples on the phone and correspond with them via email.  Along with the Adoptive Parent(s), Birthmother decides the comfort level of the relationship.
